Asuma
Il est le jounin en charge de l'équipe 10, composé de Shikamaru, Ino et Chôji.
Toujours avec une cigarette aux lèvres, il semble être un peu à l'image de Shikamaru : calme, pausé et réfléchi.
Ninja très puissant, il se bat avec des poings américains (pourvus de lames). On le voit se battre seulement deux fois. La première fois, il parvient à vaincre 8 ninjas du Son en un clin d'oeil afin de sauver Shikamaru lorsque celui-ci est chargé de poursuivre Sasuke et les ninjas de Suna : Gaara, Kankuro et Temari. La deuxième fois, il affrontera brièvement Kisame de l'Akatsuki, sans succès.
Par la suite, on le verra se battre une ultime fois contre le duo Kakuzu / Hidan... Il s'éffondrera, victime de la terrible malédiction d'Hidan.
On le soupçonne également d'avoir un lien de parenté avec le 3ème Hokage Sarutobi, autant par rapport au nom qu'à la ressemblance. L'information est confirmée un peu plus tard dans le manga (Naruto Shipuuden), Sarutobi est bien de la famille du 3ème Hokage. Il s'agit d'ailleurs de son fils. C'est donc l'oncle de Konohamaru.
Il semble qu'il soit jounin depuis un bon moment car il connait beaucoup de choses sur l'histoire des ninjas. Il se balade souvent avec Kurenai...
Durant Naruto Shipuuden, on apprendra que cette dernière est enceinte d'Asuma. Sur la tombe de son ancien senseï, Shikamaru promettra de s'occuper du futur bébé et d'être « aussi cool » qu'Asuma le fut avec lui.
